The best known wars of the Phoenicians were fought by Carthage. Carthage fought a series of wars with Rome known as the Punic wars, which eventually led to it's destruction. Carthage head a superior fleet until Rome created it's own. These wars saw the rise of Hannibal, a general of Carthage. He was considered a great general, but was unable to take Rome. Carthage repeatedly lost against Rome until it's destruction. It was later rebuilt as a Roman city.
